[polldaddy poll…

Our Schools: Less Than Proficient

Hello again,

As many of my readers may have already noticed, I posted the poll that I have been talking about for a while now. I received some E-mails about what topics that you felt would be best for it…So i put those E-mails into action, and made the poll (located on the home page) about our society’s problems, and hope you will vote. It’s quick and easy, and it will point us in the direction of change that we want to go in. Anyways, some of you may wonder…huh, why is that topic up there? I thought that was fine! Well you’re  not allowed to think that anymore, if you didn’t know before…you will know now. We are going to delve deep beneath the surface, into the abyss of “we don’t want you to know”, so that when you vote on the poll you’re going to know why!

One of the most important choices on the poll in my opinion is the “Bad Education” choice. Schools prepare the next generations to come, the next Einstein, Ford, Buffet, Picasso. The only problem is that education these days…well frankly it sucks. Why? Because the teachers don’t care. Many don’t care weather a child passes their class, or knows the information one week after learning it, or even about the future of the child. Not all teachers though, some provide love, kindness and a proper education for their young pupils. As a majority rule though the teacher of the child sees the kid as part of their job, only an obstacle on the road to salary.

There are three main reasons bad teachers become teachers instead of pursuing other careers. The first reason a science teacher becomes a teacher for example is because they may not have been smart enough to become a scientist. The second reason is because the pay for teaching does not amount to the pay that other careers do, that require smarter people, therefore teaching generally attracts people who graduated lower in their class. The third reason someone becomes a teacher is because they have always aspired to be a teacher, and it has always been their dream (these types of teachers are generally the best, the ones that provide love and kindness for their pupils).

Looking at the second reason, “the pay for teaching does not amount to the pay that other careers do, that require smarter people.” Then the key to fixing the educational system lies in paying teachers more. A higher pay will attract teachers that care about the education of children, and really know what they are teaching. The only thing is…someone has already tried this.  That someone is a woman named Michelle Rhee, she offered the teachers union of DC a 6 FIGURE INCOME in exchange for their tenure. The union did not accept the deal. They would rather teach till they got old, than receive an income that has them set for life. Either the teachers union of Washington DC is full of crazy teachers or the teachers that do  already have a job there, are scared that without tenure they would be in danger on loosing their job. A few conclusions can be drawn from these facts. First of all if someone does their job right they wouldn’t have to worry about being fired, and since the vote was majority rules, that leads me to believe that more than half of the teachers in that union were worried that they would loose their job if such an act were voted in. Now just think, If a minimum of 1/2 half of the teachers in DC teachers union were afraid they would loose their job (Because their teaching wasn’t acceptable) and Washington DC being our capital of course sets the bar for the rest of nation, how many other bad teachers would loose their jobs if people were to act and change how Education worked….No tenure….No bad teachers.

freshly graduated students applying for job now has 7 billion competitors. Places like China and India with populations well above 1 billion people, also provide people that are the most qualified for jobs, while American students rank 17th in the world for science, and a surprising below average rank of 25th for math. But that’s OK, as long as we rank 1st in confidence!

In Waiting For Superman; a movie about public schools in America, the following statement was made that shows you just how protected teachers are…and why the bad ones never get fired.

” …in Illinois, 1 in 57 doctors loses his or her medical license, and 1 in 97 attorneys loses his or her law license, but only 1 teacher in 2500 has ever lost his or her credentials.”

That statement alone should be enough to encourage change within everyone, and promote people to help change Americas educational system. If you feel strongly about making a change you can vote in the the poll on our home page.

Change Starts Now: Re-post

Hello, This as might have already noticed is a previous post, but since it contains extremely important knowledge about what is going on, I have decided to put it back into view for all you new comers to my blog.

If you have not yet read my first post, I would highly recommend you do so, as it gives a description as to what my blog is about. And to those of you that have already read my first post, we have stuff to talk about! First off, there are so many things that we as a community can change (especially an online community), but to make a difference we can’t all go off on our own meandering path, because as I have stated before, people are stronger in groups and people listen to groups.

“An empowered organization is one which individuals have the knowledge, skill, desire, and opportunity to personally succeed in a way that leads to collective organizational success.” Stephen R. Covey

So, to start change in any one of the vast groups of subjects surrounding us, we can only first tackle ONE. When a community focuses all it’s energy onto one seemingly impossible problem, the problem that used to seem so big and powerful suddenly seems conquerable, and therein lies success. As a reader you are most likely thinking that you will have no say in the matter, and no choice of what changes. Yet, here this will not be the case, and you the reader will choose what is to change.  All you have to do is post a comment, to this post  declaring what you would like this blog to help change. You may also contact me through e-mail (crawfordcolin1@aol.com) if you have a topic that you really think is a terrific choice, then I will promote your idea to all my other readers. If you see that someone has already commented an idea that you had, write a new comment on this post that may add new reasons that the other person did not touch upon and explain why this would be a good choice, and that will count as your vote towards change.

I encourage all who do post their comments to try to elaborate on why their idea seems to have the greatest need for change. Maybe even include a picture!

ex. Problem:Johnny never cleans his room.

Reason why this needs to change: -Everyone In our family looks down on him because of it.

-His friends stop hanging out with him

-His room smells bad!

(Note: your comment should not be about your personal life, but instead about topics that encompass everybody’s lives)

Sometime within the next week or two (maybe three), I will look over all of the comments made out to this post. The top comments/topics with the best arguments as to why their topic needs  change are going to be the same comment topics that I will put into a poll for all of my readers to vote on. From then on the number one topic shown in the poll (after a few weeks) will be the topic that WE as a community will fix first. I have designed this process of picking the topic to be very democratic in nature, so that everyone can be heard, because we all have a voice.

Please Don’t: Make stupid comments that are not cooperative with the blogs purpose, nor comments that may hurt the feelings of others.

List of Our Problems as a Society

Hello all readers,

In my last post I promised my next post to be one all about our problems as a society. So here it is, refer back to my previous post here, it answers all questions as to what might be going on… https://organizechange.wordpress.com/2011/11/25/change-starts-now/

WARNING:This post may at times make the reader feel: SICK, HELPLESS, OVERWHELMED, or be suffering from “realization”. These feelings are quite normal but should not be ignored. “Realization” is one of the first and most important steps towards change. To combat  these feelings of “realization”  take a break from reading for a while. Keep in mind though that it is important to continue reading after your break because symptoms of “realization” will stay with you for many weeks to come. In many cases sharing your thoughts on these subjects with a comment can be very helpful with the associated symptoms.

LIST:

Public schools don’t provide a good education(Many are schooled…Few are educated)

-Worldwide obesity epidemic

-Oil Spills

-Technology overload

-Huge CO2 emissions

-Violent society

-Huge National Debt (Currently at $15,048,575,732,431.69 in debt)

-Nukes

These are just a few of the many topics that ravage our society today, and disallow us to move forward. I think that it is pretty much unanimous  that no one wants any of these things to be a part of our lives, but they are and if that is to change we need to work together to do it!

What To Change?

Hi,

RECAP:So I have created a challenge for all you readers. One that involves you looking into your life to see which problems affect you negatively, that also effect others on a wide scale. These problems can be fixed, no matter the scale or size, or even how much you think they are unsolvable. If you get an idea comment it to this post, then if others find your comment one that projects a problem that needs to be fixed  they can either add onto the idea, or just do a thumb up located at the bottom of the post. In time I will read all the posts and account for the number on thumbs up, compiling all the best and most popular ideas into a poll. All my readers will then vote on which problem should be fixed first. The most popular topic voted on will be the one that us as a community are to fix!

*     Note: If you wish to read a full account of what is going on, read my last post here… https://organizechange.wordpress.com/2011/11/25/change-starts-now/

DOWN TO BUISNESS: To help all of you to think of what problems that could be fixed, I have decided to compile a list for my next post. Then every  day afterward I will go into detail as to what it is, and why it is a problem. You may send me an email through my Contact Page if you wish me to promote your idea on a certain day. Remember these are all your choices and thoughts so think hard…You all have a voice.

The First Post

Hi,

So I have decided to start a blog. I will not journal the daily inner-workings of my life, nor the silly trivial things going on between pop stars or movie stars. No, I have decided to make a blog detailing you. Well, not specifically you, but all the readers of my blog. I have no idea if those of you reading my posts come from other countries around the world, but where I live, in the U.S. every man is entitled a vote, a voice and a say in everything that goes on. If everyone is heard, problems should be far and few between. The only problem is that there are alot of problems. And not just any “Johnny take out the trash, it kinda stinks in here!” problems. What we have on our hands are pretty darn big country halting dilemmas. Many people these days though, seem satisfied to just sit idly by as we dig ourselves a deeper and deeper hole. Well I just can’t do it. (sorry Nike) I wont watch and wait, I want to do something and what a better time to start than now! And that my friends is where you come into play. No one listens to just one person, but with multitudes of people who want change to happen, we can tackle great problems, and improve the lives of many.
